William Carlos Feliciano of Leland, NC passed away on Saturday February 10, 2024 at the age of 71. His passing followed a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 20,1952 in Ponce, Puerto Rico and was the youngest of five children. He had fond memories of playing around in a mountainous river and spending time with his beloved Grandmother. He moved with his family to Elizabeth, New Jersey at the age of 4. William graduated from Thomas A. Edison Academy in June 1970. At the age of 20, William was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on November 26,1972. He married Marva Elaine Jones on September 21, 1974 in Perth Amboy, NJ. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. William and Marva lived in Atlantic Highlands, NJ before moving to Leland, NC in 1989. William served as an elder in the Middletown, NJ and Leland, NC congregations until his death, a total of 40 years. William was employed 16 years as a postal worker at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He eventually found his passion as a certified fitter of therapeutic and diabetic shoes. He started his own business, The Comfort Zone, and was affectionately known as "William the Shoeman."
William loved music, sports, playing pool and horseshoes, dogs, working outdoors planting flowers, bushes and trees. He especially enjoyed old Westerns, going to the movies, concerts and plays with his wife, Marva and daughters. He also loved going out to eat with their dear friends, Lenn and Glendora Slappy. William was an avid Bible student who enjoyed speaking with people about the promises for a brighter future, possible through God's Kingdom. He had an exceptional recall of scriptures, always ready to share an encouraging thought. Even in his declining health, he took the initiative and spoke about Jehovah God to any that would listen.
William was preceded in death by his father, Jorge Feliciano, Sr., mother, Pompeya Ortiz Feliciano and brother Otoniel Feliciano. He is survived by his loving, faithful wife, Marva, daughters Beverly Figueroa (husband, Carl) of Brick, NJ, Gina McLamb (husband, Aaron) of Leland, NC, grandchildren Mitchell & Emily Figueroa, Gavin & Garrett McLamb, siblings Silvia Feliciano of Morristown, NJ, Jorge Feliciano, Jr. of Elizabeth, NJ, Lidia Feliciano of Puerto Rico and a host of relatives and friends, especially Isaiah Thomas and James Brooks who studied the Bible with William and helped cultivate his love for Jehovah God and his spiritual brothers and sisters of the Middletown, NJ and North & South Leland congregations.
Marva, Beverly and Gina would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the love, prayers and encouragement during William's illness and passing. A special thank you to those who volunteered to assist in housework, lawn care, painting and providing meals. We are blessed to have such caring friends.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 17, 2024, in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 177 Old Fayetteville Rd., Leland, NC 28451
