Wayne Andrew Ondeck

Wayne Andrew Ondeck, 67, of Carolina Shores, NC (formerly Climax, NC) passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Hazleton, PA July 8, 1955, Wayne was the son of the late Andrew and Pauline Ondeck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Anita Pillot and Wanda Barnhill.

Wayne attended Reid Ross High School (class of 1973), where he developed lifelong friendships. He was employed with UPS first as a package car driver in Fayetteville and retired from UPS in Greensboro as part of the management team in the tractor-trailer division after 36 years.

While he enjoyed working at UPS, he was always a cowboy at heart.  He took so much pride in his home and acreage in Climax.  He loved baseball, softball, horses, fishing, hunting, and entertaining at a good family/friend gathering. Wayne was a friend to all and never met a stranger.

Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Linda J. Ondeck; his son, Shawn Ondeck and wife Andrea; his daughter, Laura Chaffin and husband Chris; his grandchildren, Logan Chaffin, Gavin Ondeck, Kiley Chaffin & Gwyneth Ondeck; his mother-in-law, Jeanette Flowers as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who created a nickname for everyone. His grandchildren are affectionately known as Grasshopper, Champ, Ladybug, and Butterfly.

A celebration of life will be held on, Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 6103 Appomattox Road, Climax, NC 27233 with Reverend Joseph M. Fulk, III officiating.

Following the celebration of life, the family will receive friends and family from 3:30-5:30 pm, at Whispering Oaks Event Venue at 4752 Old Julian Road, Julian, NC 27283.
