Wayne Hewett Obituary

Wayne Kyle Hewett, 86, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, in the Brunswick Health and Rehabilitation Center, Ash, NC.

Wayne was born in Brunswick County, NC on February 19, 1938 and was a son of the late Cecil Calvert and Frances Inez Hewett. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Anna Elizabeth DiSpirito; brothers-in-law, Harry Formyduval, William Mercer, and Douglas Cox; sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Wood (Shelton), Nancy Bullins (John), and Christine Hewett.

Wayne was proud to serve in the US Army Reserves and the US Army from 1956-1963, with overseas duty in Japan from 1958-1961. After the Army, Wayne enjoyed a successful career with W.R. Grace Co., and Royster Fertilizer Co. rising to the position of Sr. Vice-President of Materials.  Retiring in 1985, he and Emma returned to Brunswick County where he earned his real estate broker’s license, and enjoyed gardening and landscaping.

He was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church. He and Emma enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Wayne served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and on the Board of Directors. For many years Wayne and his kitchen crew prepared and served memorable meals before Wednesday Prayer Meeting. It brought him great pleasure to feed people good food.

Wayne deeply loved his wife, Emma, his family and Brunswick County. He was quiet-natured, a spiritual person, a seeker of truth, and commited to doing good. He believed that love required action. He had a tender heart for those less fortunate and often met their needs, never drawing attention to himself. In his life, he was guided by Micah 6:8, “And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Emma Lou (Gore) Hewett; two loving daughters, Teah Denise DiSpirito and husband Mike, Angela Diane Godsey and husband Patrick; siblings, Ray Hewett, Carol Mercer and Frances Diane Cox; sister-in-law, Anna Formyduval; grandchildren, Jessica Hopkins of Holden Beach, Kyle DiSpirito and wife Michele of Shallotte, Emily Outen and husband Matt of Burlington, Caleb, & Joshua Dispirito both of Ocean Isle Beach, Jared Cline and wife Bridgette of Wilmington, Holly Adelman and husband Avram of Juneau, AK; great grandchildren, Joseph Hopkins, Mason Hopkins, Micah Hopkins, Copeland DiSpirito, Ford DiSpirito, Fletcher DiSpirito, Monroe Outen, Avery Outen, Henry Outen, Noah Adelman, Tristan Adelman, Benjamin Adelman, Julian Adelman, Sawyer Adelman, Rosemary Adelman and Sebastian Adelman, Wayne also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, his church family and friends.
