Timothy ‘Tim’ Gondek, 67, of Calabash, NC (Brunswick Plantation) passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 in the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice House in Bolivia, NC, following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Tim was born in Chicago, IL on the 26th of August, 1957 and was the son of the late Edward Gondek and Elizabeth (Betty) Snider Gondek. In addition to his parents, Tim was also preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra (Sandy) G. Allen Gondek. Surviving, are his wife, Tracy Gondek, Calabash, NC; step-daughter Dr. Bonnie (Steve) Fines, Risa and Annika, St. Paul, MN; sister Cynthia (Dick) Dean, Calabash, NC-Hilary (Ryan) Hickey, great niece and nephews, and Nathan Dean all of the Atlanta area; brother Skip (Pattie) Gondek, Elgin, IL-Kevin (Cassandra) Gondek, Jason (Caitlin) Gondek, Derek (Clarabelle) Gondek; great nieces and nephews; and best friend, Steve (Karen) Sovcik, all of the Chicagoland area. Tim grew up in Elmwood Park, attending St. Celestine’s, John’s Mills and then Elmwood Park High School, where he was known as Gonz! He graduated from Triton College in printing and worked his way up from a Film Assembler and Platemaker on Printer’s Row in Chicago, to a Pre-Press Manager for leading international printing company, Quebecor World. He last worked in Atlanta, GA as a Customer Service/Pressroom Scheduler. Tim was an avid golfer. He started caddying at age 12 and was a member of the Oak Park Country Club Loopers, where he was lovingly named ‘Tiny’, due to his size, but he could hit a ball straight for 275 yards! A member of his high school and college golf teams, Tim was also a member of the Hillcrest Sunday Men’s League in Hoffman Estates, IL and went on to caddy in the Western Open at Coghill in Lamont, IL. While living in Atlanta, he volunteered in 2011 at the 93rd PGA Championship, at the Atlanta Athletic Club. Growing up as ‘The Class Clown’, Tim was happiest when he made people laugh! So many remember his sense of humour and brilliant smile. One of the best disco dancers in the day, he loved music - with favourites Peter Gabriel and Genesis. He was a favourite on the dance floor! He was also an avid card player and a great foosball player. And he loved dogs. He is missed.
