Thomas Herbert Muckenfuss, 84, of Ash, NC passed away at sunrise Sunday morning, November 23, 2025, at his home with family at his bedside.
Thomas was born in Jacksonville, FL on February 22, 1941, and was a son of the late Herbert Vernon and Maude Ilene Birdsong Muckenfuss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two people that was very influential and important in his life, Aunt Maggie “Mimi” Matthews and her husband Bill Matthews; his 2nd wife, Betty Muckenfuss, a sister, Shirley Rigdon and a nephew, Fred Odom.
As a young teenager he moved to Cottageville, SC and worked on the family farm with pigs, cotton, chickens, and cows. He brought his family to Ash, NC in 1971 where he enjoyed the rest of his life. He worked as an outdoor power equipment salesman. He sold to commercial buyers for 25 years; he then retired and started bartending in Calabash for a couple years. He enjoyed many things such as horse riding, camping, fishing, playing cards, the harmonica, yoyo, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, Four wheelers, boats and the ocean and river. He was the most perfect dad.
Surviving are a son, Thomas Michael “Mike” Muckenfuss and wife Lee; a daughter Michele Williams, and special son-in-law, James Williams; their mother, Ray Glover; two bonus daughters, Sharon Williamson and husband Joey, Becky Garges and husband Craig; a brother, Jerry Muckenfuss and wife Barbara; grandchildren, Raya “David” Smith, Daniel Smith and Brandon Muckenfuss. He also leaves behind nieces Beth Walker (Johnny), Susan Winborne (Jeff), Midge Cook (Terry), Jane Arwood; two nephews, Mark Fleischer (Deede) and Grover Owens; and numerous bonus grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from his home at 3625 Whiteville Road, NW, Ash, NC 28420, with a reception to follow.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the home.
