Thomas Wayne Hellmer, 65, of Southport, NC, was born into eternal life on September 11,2024 in the Lower Cape Fear Life Care, “Brunswick House” surrounded by his wife, Connie, and best friend, Steven Thacker following a lengthy illness.
Born in Kansas City, Kansas, on February 9, 1959, Tom was a son of the late Gilbert and Catherine Regina Strathman Hellmer. He was a cherished husband, father, and friend who deeply loved spending time with his family and friends.
Tom was the Director of Financial Accounting, for the United States Patent Office, Alexandria, VA. He was a graduate of Kansas State University. He and his wife lived in Lake Ridge, VA, most of their life together and he was strongly involved in his church, Christ Chapel, Woodbridge, VA. He was Stage Manager for the church’s holiday productions and loved being part of the events. He was a Commander in the Royal Rangers and held campouts in his backyard for the younger children, attended fishing rodeos, and Pinewood Derby events.
Tom’s favorite hobbies were skiing with his son, Seth, and friends throughout the United States. He was a member of the Frederick Ski Club. He had annual canoeing trips with friends doing the Rappahannock and Roanoke Rivers in Virginia. He was known for always being prepared.
Surviving is his devoted and loving wife of 27 years, Constance “Connie” C. Hellmer; A son, Seth Thomas Hellmer; siblings, Annette Moran and husband David of Manhattan, KS, John Hellmer of Shawnee, KS, Dennis Hellmer and wife Patricia of Ft. Collins, CO, Brian Hellmer of Ottawa, KS, Bruce Hellmer and wife Melissa of Lee’s Summit, MO, Rozanne Megee and husband Robert of Overland Park, KS, James Hellmer and wife Patricia of Winter Haven, FL; and several special nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, on October 19, 2024 in Generations Church, 4019 Executive Park Blvd. SE., Southport, NC, of which he was a member,
