Thomas Hannan Obituary

Thomas Joseph Hannan passed away at his home on December 27, 2020 after fighting a yearlong battle with the beast known as Glioblastoma Multiforme.  True to form, Tom didn’t quit; he just got beat.

Tom was born and raised in NJ. He moved to NC in 1998. He spent 20 years in Fayetteville enjoying most weekends at his condo in Sunset Beach. He relocated to Ocean Isle Beach in 2018.

Tom was a lifelong “produce guy”. He recently retired from Military Produce Group after 18 years of consulting and merchandising in the commissaries along the East coast.

Tom had a plan and he realized his dream of retiring “young” and moving to the beach. He planned to work part time, golf, fish, do his woodwork and enjoy his hard earned “golden years”. But two weeks after retiring, Tom got sucker punched by brain cancer. And boy was he pissed.

Because.....

Tom loved life.  He loved his wife. He loved his daughters.  He loved his grandchildren. He loved his family and friends. Tom loved golf. He loved fishing. He loved the Minnesota Vikings and March Madness. He loved betting on sports. Tom loved working in the yard. He loved his woodworking. He loved Kools. Oh, and “one more” - Tom loved his Crown and Cokes.

And we loved Tom (aka Tee, Daddy, G-Daddy, Bug).

Tom is survived by his wife of 24 years, Dina; his two daughters Christine and Kelly; his son-in-law Blaine; his grandchildren Aiden and Madison; his parents Thomas and Mary; his sister Cathy; and a boatload of brothers- and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. We are comforted in our belief that Tom’s favorite uncle, “Josey Wales” Witherow, met him at Heaven’s gates to show him the ropes.

When Tom was diagnosed with GBM, his first question was “what caused it?” All of the doctors gave him the same answer - “bad luck”. This answer is unacceptable. No one should have to go through what Tom went through. Therefore, we ask that the next time you have an extra dollar in your pocket, you make a donation in Tom’s name to Glioblastoma research. StacheStrong or The Brain Tumor Network would be our choices. Thank you.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date.

We miss him today, we will miss him tomorrow, we will miss him always.

Rest easy, G-Daddy. We love you.
