Theodore James “Ted” Hollenbeck, 66, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC formerly of Penfield, NY passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, at the Grand Strand Medical Center.
Ted was born in Rochester on June 11, 1957, to the late Roger and Wanda Hollenbeck. In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by family members, Stephen & Rita Durbin, Homer & Dorothy Appleby, Gary Gleason and Phillis & Red Raville.
Ted attended Penfield High School. He earned a BA in Civil Engineering at Syracuse University. soccer was his first passion.He played through high school and collegiately. He coached girls Soccer in Penfield, NY for many years.
Ted was a retired Civil Engineer and worked many years for the Frazier Rack Systems becoming a VP of Civil Engineering. He subsequently worked as a consultant and software engineer.
Ted was a life long learner and avid reader. He had a keen interest in American history. All who knewTed quickly realized that he had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor.
In recent years Ted jumped in his RV and had explored many state parks from NY, PA, MI and New England. He played pickle ball almost daily. He greatly enjoyed the camaraderie and friendly competition among his new coastal community.
Ted had a strong affection for his dogs. He could often be seen walking his beloved collie ,Tucker, at the beach or in his wonderful neighborhood at Ocean Isle Beach.
Ted was a beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews.
He was the gentlest of souls and will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his siblings, brother, Mark Hollenbeck (Marie),sister Marcy Skelton(Craig), sister Jill North (Steve). nieces ;Brittany Hollenbeck, Neeka Guenther (Josh) , nephews ;Nick Hollenbeck (Casey), Brandon Skelton (Alyssa) and Mark North; great nieces ; Lola Hollenbeck and Ayla Skelton, and his aunt Joyce Gleason and many beloved cousins.
A memorial Mass is being held at the Church of the Assumption 20 East Ave. Fairport ,NY 14450 on Saturday October 21st at 10 AM. Family will be receiving visitors before Mass at the church starting at 8:30 AM in lieu of visiting hours.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that donations may be made to the Rescue Animals Community Effort “R. A. C. E.” 503 Red Fox St., NW Shallotte, NC 28470.
