Thea (Powell) Lawson

Thea Powell Lawson, 78, of Shallotte, NC passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025 in the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, “Brunswick House” following a time of declining health.

Thea was born in Charlottesville, VA on July 30, 1946, and was a daughter of the late Theodore Powell and Alpha Gardner Powell. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Joe Selvia and Chuck Nicely.

Thea retired from the Norfolk Southern Railway Company after over forty years of service. She was a devout Christian and was an active member of Coastal Church and served on the hospitality committee and was a greeter.

Surviving are her loving husband of 23 years, Randy E. Lawson; a son, Shane Williams, two step-sons, Shawn Lawson and wife Kate, David Lawson; a brother, Teddy R. “T.R.” Powell and wife Diane; two sisters, Jay Selvia and Anne Nicely; and three beloved grandchildren, Rollin Williams,  William Lawson, and George Lawson.

A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
