Susan Hume Obituary

Susan Louise (Miner) Hume – Mom, Grandma, Grandmommy, Gigi June 11, 1946 – December 24, 2024
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Susan Louise Hume (78), who was called to her
heavenly home on December 24, 2024. She now resides in everlasting peace with the Lord. Susan was a
beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and cherished friend to all. She was also a
devoted member of the United Methodist Church and a lifelong pillar of her community. Her faith was a
guiding light to all who knew her, and she will forever be remembered with love, gratitude, and
reverence.
For nearly 35 years, Susan faithfully served Christ through the ministry of Medina United Methodist
Church (MUMC) and her community, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to every role she embraced.
Whether as a volunteer or staff member, Susan consistently gave her full devotion and maximized the
gifts God had bestowed upon her. She served as a valued member of the preschool staff, a dedicated
Church Office Manager, and the Administrative Assistant to the District Superintendent of the Akron
District Office and most notably, as the Minister of Visitation and Congregational Care for MUMC. Susan
brought her calm and soothing spirit to those facing life’s most difficult challenges, offering immediate
assurance and unwavering support.
Susan's contributions extended beyond her professional roles. Her dedication to education and personal
growth is evident in the leadership positions she held. She was certified as the Wooster District Lay
Speaker of the Year in 2003, served as a Lay Leader, Usher, Annual Conference Staff Member, Stephen
Minister Leader, and Stephen Minister. She also volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher, Circle
CoLeader, Bible Study Leader, Disciple II Leader, and assisted pastors with all aspects of worship
services.
Susan was a true social butterfly; she was always up for a fun time with her friends and family. She
enjoyed hosting and attending parties and loved to decorate her house according to the season. Music
was always playing in her house and in her car. She loved praise music and danced around to the
Supremes, Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart, and Cher. Susan never missed an opportunity
to travel. Through mission trips and travel with her family, she cruised through Europe and Alaska,
visited Disney World several times, helped rebuild after floods in Missouri, and was part of a group that
began the construction of a church in Costa Rica that is now complete and flourishing. Susan was
appreciative of the little things in life. She enjoyed needlepoint and cross stitch and was proud to share
her creations with her friends and family. Even in her final days she looked at one of her needlepoints
hanging on the wall and with a big smile said, “I did that!”
Born on June 11, 1946, in Washington, D.C., Susan was the daughter of Sherman and Jane Miner. She is
survived by her brother Ronald (Audrey) Miner; her children, Kelli (Kevin) Tittle, Kevin (Donna)
Dougherty, Carrie (Kirk) Harris, and Stephen (Tori) Hume; her grandchildren, Andrew (Lauren) Angus,
Jared, Spenser, Zain, and EmmJay Tittle; Erin and Abby Dougherty; Kylee (Steven) Brooks, Maggie, and
Aynsley Harris; Cooper, Reese, and Cash Hume; and her great-grandchildren, Sage, Silas, and Marceline
Tittle; Zoey and Josie Angus; and Grayson, Bailee, and Harper Brooks; and many nieces and nephews.
In a message for Susan, her family wishes to tell her that we love her to the moon and back, xoxo...
