Samuel "Sammy" Ricky Babson

Samuel (Sammy) Ricky Babson, also known as “Snipe”, age 64, of Ash, NC passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2021 at his home while surrounded by his family. 

Sammy was born in Whiteville, NC on the fourteenth of October 1957 to Mrs. Alice Babson Long and the late George Ferris Babson. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Joseph Long. Sammy or “Snipe” as many knew him was a retired lead mechanic for Brunswick County. He was a longtime member of New Britton Baptist Church and an accomplished outdoorsman who enjoyed spending his days fishing and hunting. He was a former member of Freeland Hunting Club, Bear Pen Hunting Club, Exum Hunting Club, Simmons’s Bay Hunting Club and a current member of Big Neck Hunting Club.

Surviving are his mother, Alice Babson Long of Ash; his wife, Paula Simmons Babson; two sons, Ricky Babson (Christy) of Ash, Bradley Babson (Joanna) of Shallotte; a step-son, Jonathan Cavenaugh (Heather) of Ash; three siblings, Randy Babson (Sabrina), Gregg Babson (Carol), and Debbie Meadows (Dale) all of Ash. He was also known as “Papa Snipe” to three grandchildren, Gracelyn Marie Babson, Bailey Elizabeth Babson and Kylar Raine Cavenaugh.

Family will receive friends from 2-3pm, Saturday at New Britton Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow immediately at 3:00 PM with the Reverend Sterling Sarvis officiating. Graveside service will be held at the church cemetery.
