Richard Dwight Simmons, Sr., 74, 0f Southport, NC (Boiling Spring Lakes Community), passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center, “Brunswick House” following a time of declining health.
Richard was born in Southport, NC, on July 19, 1950, and was a son of the late Blanco and Lucas Marie Smith Simmons. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a son, Michael Simmons, and a brother, Timmy Simmons.
He served in the US Navy, retired from Sunny point Military Ocean terminal and served as a deacon among other areas in the First Baptist Church of Boiling Spring Lakes, NC. (Southport, NC). He served the Lord and was an inspiration to many people.
Surviving are his devoted and loving wife of 55 years, Jane E. Simmons; two sons, David Simmons, (Amy), Richard “Rick” Simmons; three daughters, Sherry S. Seitter (Eddie), Barbara Simmons, Rebecca “Becky” Simmons; a sister, Marie Simmons; twelve grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
In honor of his wishes, a private celebration will be held.
