Richard Allen “Dick” Giehl, 82, of Brick Landing Plantation, Ocean Isle Beach, NC formerly of Reynoldsburg, OH passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026 in the Angel House Hospice Center, Whiteville, NC.
Dick was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 12, 1943 to the late Charles and Margaret Bunte Giehl.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Mildred “Millie” Stephen.
In 1971 Dick was selected as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America for his civic involvement in Groveport, OH. An award given to him for his civic-minded heart that would follow him throughout his life.
Dick retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company in 1991 after thirty years of service. His many positions at Ohio Bell in Columbus OH included Lineman, Line Foreman, Cable Splicing Foreman, Divisional Staff Assistant Manager and retired as Assistant Manager of Outside Construction and Engineering.
After retiring, Dick and his beloved wife Bonnie permanently moved to Brick Landing Plantation and he became actively involved in community affairs. While serving as an early BLP Master Association President and later serving as the Windsong Association President, he was instrumental in the transition of BLP assets from the developer to the property owners.
He was an avid and accomplished golfer and was a regular player in weekly and annual tournaments. He was a charter member and served as a past President of the Brick Landing Men’s Club. In addition to golf, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, creating treasured memories, listening to his favorite bluegrass music, reading, fishing, traveling and hitting a casino jackpot.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of forty-five years Bonnie Phillips Giehl, daughter LaRisha Giehl of Obetz, OH, granddaughter Cierra (Bobby) Repsha of Freehold, NJ, sister Pam Giehl of Schorndorf, Germany, brother-in-law & sister-in-law Lee and Becky Phillips of Beallsville, OH. He will be dearly missed by his loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life service is being planned and will be announced on this website at a later date.
