Rachel Joan (Harper) Kye

Rachel Harper Kye, 82, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of her children. Born October 3, 1943, Rachel lived a life centered around family, love, and the simple moments that became lifelong memories.

Rachel was affectionately known as “Cookie Grammie,” a name lovingly given to her during the years she spent baking cookies with her grandchildren when they were small. Those special days in the kitchen with Trey and Alexis became some of her most cherished memories, and the name became a lasting symbol of the love she had for her family.

She is survived by her children, Tim Kye and Jennifer Kye Gates (Donald).

She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Trey Cooke (Taylor Cooke), Alexis Hall (Alex Hall), Lauren Gates, and Mary Gates, who all held a special place in her heart. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Holden, Storey, and Tucker Cooke, Branson Hall, and baby Hall expected in July.

The family would also like to give special recognition and heartfelt thanks to her cousin, Carolyn Smith, whose love, constant support, and special bond with Rachel meant so much to her and have been a great source of comfort to Tim and Jennifer during this time.

Rachel had a special way of making everyone feel welcome. She was not only a devoted mother and grandmother, but someone who embraced her children’s friends as if they were her own, often becoming an extended mother figure to many. Her home, her kitchen, and her heart were always open. She gave her love freely, without judgment, and accepted people exactly as they were. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort knowing her love and memories will continue to live on through the generations she helped guide through life.

Service arrangements are being handled by Michael J Fulwood Funeral & Cremation Service. A private graveside service will be held Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM at McKeithan Cemetery in Ash, North Carolina
