Norman Elliott Kidwell, Jr., 80, of Calabash, NC passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026 at his home with his loving family by his side following a lengthy illness.
Norman or “Norm” as he was affectionately known was born on April 9, 1945, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania and was one of three children born to the late Norman E. Kidwell, Sr., and Florence Ward Kidwell. In addition to his parents, Norm was predeceased by a sister, Carol Bertino.
Norm was born in Pennsylvania but spent most of his life in Connecticut. He graduated from UCONN and was employed at The Harford Insurance Group for 27 years, retiring in 2008. He held many positions in IT, most recently Norm was an Assistant Director in the AARP Homeowner’s Insurance Division. After an early retirement he served as an IT Specialist for a non-profit mental health organization, Advocacy Unlimited, primarily maintaining their website, but also assisted in their many functions. Norm also had a business of creating and maintaining websites for his clients.
He loved playing his guitar and enjoyed band life during his college years. He joked about his band, the “Blue Embers” band going to New York City to make a record and they sold one copy.
Norm was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in various leagues at The Hartford as well as being out practicing.
Norm and his wife spent many vacations visiting their daughter & son in law on Cape Cod, being a favorite place of his. He loved eating seafood at Captain Frosty’s and walking the dogs on the beach.
Norm and his wife relocated to Western North Carolina in 2018 then to Calabash on the coast in 2022. The fabulous golf courses and coastal area were calling his name.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Deborah Burt Kidwell; a daughter, Carie Casserino and husband Richard; and a brother, Roger Kidwell and wife Sharyl.
