Michael Hensley, "Mick" (to family & close friends) passed away, Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from cancer. It was a very brief time of illness. He was born October 25, 1943, in Rock Hill, SC to the late Naff and Edna Hensley. Also preceded in death by a son, Chris Hensley of Orlando, FL.
Mike was a proud US Air Force veteran where he served as Tech Sergeant. He left the Air Force and went to study Finance & Management before securing a position with JM&A Group in Florida. He traveled throughout the southeast as a Finance Director/Trainer in the Automotive Industry for years. Ready to settle down, he took a permanent position in Sanford, NC where he met the love of his life, Patti Cranford Hensley. They shared 37 wonderful years. Mike wanted to retire to the Florida coast but his Carolina girl wanted to stay close to her family. They looked at coastal towns and chose Oak Island to be their new home.
Once settled and enjoying island life, Mike worked part-time at Oak Island Marine, in boat sales & finance. He later went to Oak Island Sporting Goods where he met a dear new friend in Charlie Wilson. They really enjoyed working together & the friendship they built there. He made friends wherever he was, and we talked about good times with many of you throughout the years.
Mike enjoyed anything involving water & sports, Boating, Fishing, Golf, Hanging' on the Beach, Swimming, & Skiing. Patti was right by his side as she loved the water and sports too!
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Patti Cranford Hensley; a son, Christopher (deceased) and wife Stacy; 5 grandchildren - Christopher, Connor, Colin, Kassidy & Kennedy (twins), a son, Grant and wife (Amy); 3 grandchildren - Matthew, Katie & Luke (who shared the same birthday as Grandpa Mick).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 1:00 PM, on the Beachside Lawn at Oak Island Golf Club, 928 Caswell Beach Road, Caswell Beach, NC 28465.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in his honor to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Brunswick House, www.lifecare.org .
