Mary Lou (McFarland) McFarland

Mary Lou McFarland, 74, of Oak Island, North Carolina and Tega Cay, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 after a long illness, at Brunswick Health & Rehab in Calabash, NC.

Born on May 31, 1950 in Greensboro, NC. Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Guy W. and Betty Jean (Sanders) McFarland.

Mary Lou was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill where she received her undergraduate degree. While there she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. Mary Lou received her Master’s of Education degree from UNC-Charlotte. She began working in and retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. Mary Lou was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC.

She is survived by a brother, Guy McFarland; sister-in-law, Bettie McFarland; nieces, Ashley McFarland and Emily McFarland; nephew Nicholas McFarland and a great-nephew, Anderson McFarland.

To honor her wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary Lou’s memory to her hospice provider LifeCare, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422.
