Mr. Marvin Benjamin Bennett, 83, of Calabash, NC passed away at his home on Friday, the twenty third of July 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Marvin was born on his family farm in Brunswick County, NC on the twenty seventh of November 1937 and was a son of the late Robert B. “R.B.” Bennett and Dorothy Lee Reeves “Mama Dot” Bennett. In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Debbie West Bennett, sister-in-law, Shirley M. Bennett and a niece, Rachel Bennett.
Marvin was a devout Christian and lifelong member of Beulah Baptist Church, Calabash, he was also a graduate of Shallotte High School Class of 1956 and was a US Army National Guard veteran. Marvin will certainly be remembered as a man of integrity, generosity, compassion and strong moral character. He was a successful businessman and was instrumental in the operations of several local businesses. His work history includes, the family farm, Shallotte Marine Supply in his youth, Bennett’s Seafood Kitchen from 1969 to 1995, was founder of Bennett’s Calabash Seafood in Myrtle Beach, SC, Hickory, NC and Lincolnton, NC. He was also the founder of Bennett’s Power Equipment 1995 to 2002 and most recently Bennett’s Grill and Café in 2016 and is still in operation.
Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Varnam Bennett; two sons, Terry Wayne Bennett and wife Rita Pigott Bennett of Shallotte Point, Marvin Dale Bennett and wife Wendy Parker Bennett of Calabash; two brothers, Rev. Dr. Foyd Bennett and wife Myrna of Supply, NC, Lloyd Edwin “Eddie” Bennett and wife Cheryl of Calabash; grandchildren, Myles Bennett (Brooke), Dusty Bennett (Monica), Wesley Bennett (Stevie), Amber Bennett; great grandchildren, R.J. Bennett, Emma Bennett and Zachary Bennett.
Memorial services will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday the fifteenth of August 2021 in Beulah Baptist Church. Inurnment will take place in the Bennett-Beck Cemetery.
