Marviean McGinnis Mullis

Marviean McGinnis Mullis, 84, of Bolivia, NC passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024, in the Brunswick Rehab & Health of Bolivia following a lengthy illness.

Born in Mecklenburg County, NC, Marviean was one of eight children born to the late Ernest Kirby and Edith Odean Kerley McGinnis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William Irvin “Bill” Mullis in 2021 and five siblings. 

Marviean was a socialite in her own right making friends everywhere she was and gave everything 100%. In her youth she was involved in her school playing trumpet in the band, was a majorette and played basketball. She played softball for her church’s team. Marviean loved music. She played piano for several churches and sang in many choirs. If we weren’t singing we were dancing. Bill met Marviean at a dance and from there they danced everywhere at home and with the Wheel and Deal Square Dancing Club. Anyone that stepped in the house got fed and there was always fresh coffee. As a mom, she taught us to love the Lord and treat everyone with kindness but stand up for yourself and family cause you always have family. In the end that’s what matters.

Surviving are her loving cchildren, Trena Boldt (Martin) of Longs, SC, Ponee Lowery of Bolivia, Nickie West of Holden Beach; a son, Tim Mullis (Lisa); two brothers, Ronnie McGinnis (Vickie), Tommy McGinnis (Joan); ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, August 17, 2024 in the Brunswick Islands Baptist Church where she was a founding member. A reception will follow at the home of her daughter, Nickie at 2360 Weeping Oak Road, SW, Supply, NC 28462.
