Marie T. Browne, 91, of Bolivia, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center.
Born in Mount Vernon, NY, on April 6, 1934, Marie was the daughter of the late Frank and Grace Sperduto Troiano. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 34 years, Paul J. Browne, on September 26, 1993; two sons, Stephen A. Browne and Paul A. Browne; and her brother, Anthony Troiano.
Affectionately known as “Ma,” “Nan,” or “Aunt Marie,” she was a fierce and loving presence in the lives of everyone who knew her. Marie was deeply devoted to her family, an avid reader and writer, and always had something delicious cooking.
Raised in Mt. Vernon, NY, she attended Our Lady of Victory School and graduated from Blessed Sacrament Academy in Yonkers. She continued her education at Our Lady of Victory Business School and later pursued courses at Fordham University.
While working in Manhattan, Marie met the love of her life, Paul J. Browne, an engineer from Brooklyn. Their marriage was one of partnership filled with good food, travel, NY Times Crossword Puzzles, and a shared commitment to building a future for their children.
Marie forged a remarkable professional path, serving as an executive secretary at Olin, Xerox Latin America Group, TexasGulf, and General Reinsurance. She was a trailblazer—a working mother who balanced career, family, and hot rollers, before most women.
Her home was more than a house—it was a gathering place. Nieces, nephews, and her children’s friends were always welcome, often stopping in for a bite, BBQ, party, or camping out in sleeping bags during spontaneous sleepovers. She made every guest feel like family.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Marisa Scott (Robert) of Bolivia, NC; her son, Peter Browne (Roberta) of Mooresville, NC; her sister, Gloria Vitolo of Windham, NH; her brother, Frank Troiano of Arizona; her sister-in-law, Rebecca Troiano of Orange, CT; and grandchildren PJ Mansfield and fiancée Paige Cahill, Erin Scott, Haley Schineller, Ryan Browne, and Henry Browne. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held followed by the interment at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY, on August 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations in Marie’s honor be made to the Dementia Society of America or the American Heart Association.
