Margaret June Higginbotham Obituary

Margaret June Casto Higginbotham, 88, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October
24, 2024 at her home on Oak Island after a short illness.
June was born January 17, 1936 in Nitro, West Virginia to Mott Kenneth Casto and
Nancy Margaret Graham Casto. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband,
Earl Denver Higginbotham, her three brothers, Kenneth Lee Casto, Charles Wayne
Casto, and Joseph Edward Casto, and granddaughter, Megan Adaire Higginbotham.
She is survived by her son, David Earl Higginbotham (Julie) of Lindenhurst, IL,
daughter, Nancy Lynn Higginbotham Green of Greensboro, NC, four grandchildren,
Tommy and Sarah Jane Green of Chattanooga, TN, Jack Green of Birmingham, AL,
and Madison Schwagerman (Stuart) of Goose Creek, SC.
June was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Island where she served as a
former choir member and deacon. She was an avid seamstress, crocheter and quilter
and loved her time as a member of the Oak Island Beach Quilters. She regularly
attended senior lunch at the community center, enjoyed yard sales and thrift stores, and
loved the Flying Solo events at the local Presbyterian church. June spent hours working
in the yard and found so much pleasure in her plants and flowers.
A proud 1953 graduate of Nitro High School, June later graduated from the Charleston
School of Commerce and West Virginia State University. Her favorite job was being a
mother and homemaker. HIghlights of her life were of the trips she made with her
husband to the Bahamas and Hawaii, and the mission trips she went on with her church
to Vermont, Gulf Port, Mississippi, and to Kenya. She felt herself very blessed to be able
to serve her Lord beyond her town borders. June was dearly loved by her family, her
church family, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Oak Island, 4608 East Oak
Island Drive, Oak Island, NC on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Visitation will
be an hour before the service with Pastors Charlie Carter and Lyle LaFountain
officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of the First Baptist
Church of Oak Island, 4608 East Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC 28465.

Online condolences are encouraged and may be sent to the family at www.fulwoodfuneralservice.com
