It is with profound sadness that we share with our many friends and family, the passing of Linda Jean Dunne of Calabash, N.C. on December 31, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer, and just weeks after celebrating her 77th birthday. Linda was born in Rockland County, N.Y. on December 13, 1947 to John and Helen (Schaffner) Helbig. She grew up in Pearl River, N.Y., and graduated from Nanuet Senior High School in 1966. Linda had a great love for travel. After graduating, she worked as a travel agent for Perillo-Griffith Travel Agency, with frequent travel opportunities to experience and research popular destinations internationally, to better assist clients with their travel plans. During her tenure, Linda met the love of her life, Bob Dunne in 1968, and they were wed in 1971. Linda and Bob resided in Nanuet for 22 years where she lovingly raised her beloved family. She worked for Bambergers in Nanuet prior to them owning and operating the infamous Nanuet Triangle Pub for nine years. Later, in 1996, they happily retired to the beach in Calabash, N.C. Linda was a devoted wife, mother, nana, and sister. Her absolute greatest passion was her family, with her two grandsons being the true light of her life. She was a selfless woman who always put the needs of her children and others before her own. Linda was an exceptional craft maker and shopping was her favorite past time…there was not a store she did not like! Linda truly loved attending Notre Dame football games with her family, which were full of laughs and fond memories. She was proud to be an auxiliary member of the Calabash American Legion Post 503, where she enjoyed many years of interactions with the Post members and friends. Linda is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bob Dunne of Calabash; her loving son, Robert Dunne (Pamela) of Nanuet, N.Y.; and 2 adoring grandchildren, Conor and Liam Dunne; her best friend and sister, Patricia McGrath (John) of Pompano Beach, Fla.; She is also survived by a host of loving in-laws, many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and caring friends. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Helen Helbig, her beloved daughter, Allison Dunne, and brother, John Helbig. Linda will always be present in our Hearts, Forever Loved, and Deeply Missed. There will be a celebration of life for Linda in the Calabash area, shortly. Those details will be shared as an update to this post, once available.
