Laurie Behrens Obituary

Laurie Ann Behrens, 63, of Southport, NC passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, in the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center, “Brunswick House” following a lengthy illness.  

 

Laurie was born in Queens, NY on January 1, 1963, and was a daughter of Robert W. Behrens and the late Marie Calhoun Behrens. In addition to her mother, Laurie was preceded in death by a sister, Robyn Franssen and brother-in-law, Christopher Franssen.  

 

Laurie graduated with her class of ‘81, of Sachem High School, Ronkonkoma, NY. Following high school, she attended the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado. She was NYC Building Code certified and was a NC Notary Public. She lived in her youth in East Rockaway and Holbrook, NY and more recently in Southport, NC. 

 

Prior to her battle with cancer, she worked for Dosher Memorial Hospital, Southport, NC in the Emergency Administration and Registration. She was able to utilize her creative skills while working in the pre-construction and interior design services with the Cottage Building Company, Leland, NC. She enjoyed collaborating with subcontractors and was responsible for attaining their building permits. Laurie also was a founding member of the MG Consulting Service, Bronx, NY where she worked as office manager, bookkeeper and was responsible for employment and employee compensation.  

 

Laurie enjoyed trips to the beach to take in the awesomeness of the ocean. She also enjoyed reality tv shows and was an accomplished flutist in her younger years.  

 

Surviving are her loving father, Robert W. Behrens and wife/step-mother, Barbara Behrens of Southport, NC; a brother, Robert W. Behrens, Jr. and wife Gabrielle of Hampstead, NC; their children, Zoe Behrens, Smantha Behrens, Robert W. Behrens, III, all of Hampstead, NC; a sister, Bridget E. C. Harmon and husband Matthew Harmon, their son, Jacob Harmon all of Vienna, VA; a niece , Chelsea Franssen and great nephew, Isaiah Woodhouse, both of Raleigh, NC. 

 

The family may choose to have a private gathering of family and friends in the future.   

 

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society.
