Karen Joy Rubio, 78, of Shallotte, NC formerly of Warner Robbins, GA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at her home.
Karen was born in Aurora, Illinois on August 23, 1947, and was one of five children born to the late Ernest L. and Elizabeth Bellante Kimpon. In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Kimpon, three sisters, Jullie Kimpon, Dorothy Gates and Gloria Tobalt.
Karen loved many things including crafting, painting, music, delicious meals and spending time with family. She was a talented artist winning several awards at the Georgia state fair. Her largest achievement however was the way she lived, she was truly genuine and unbelievably empathetic. She will be deeply missed but her spirit will live on in all the people she has touched over the years.
Surviving are her loving husband of 58 years, Sal Rubio, three children, Sal Rubio, Suzanne Rubio, Nicholas Rubio and wife Eunice; three grandchildren, Skylar Gendron, Brittany Lewis, Jenna Rubio, a great-great grandson, Blake Parisi, Jr. and her sister Sharon Sweeney.
In honor of her wishes, the family will have a private memorial at a later date.
