Mrs. Julia Ann Joyner, 92, of Bolivia, NC, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024, in the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center following a short time of declining health. Born in Bolivia, NC, she was the second oldest of thirteen children to the late Rufus and Mary Knight Randolph. As a child, she grew up on a farm and loved being with her father. She labeled herself a "Daddy's Girl," but she always appreciated how her mother was industrious and took care of her family with no complaints. She carried the love and joy of her large family with her throughout her life.
Once Julia completed high school at BCT, she moved to Washington, DC. This is where she met and married the love of her life, Henry Joyner. Together, they raised their daughter, Teresa, who was a source of immense pride and joy. She worked for the National Orthopedic Hospital as an X-Ray Tech Assistant and later as an Occupational Therapist Assistant; she was well known and admired by the staff and patients. In 1980, after her husband passed away, Julia moved back to Bolivia and was thrilled to be back home and closer to family. In 1987, Julia started studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses, and in July 1989, she dedicated her life to Jehovah by baptism. She spoke of her faith with enthusiasm and conviction. Even as her health declined, she would attend her congregation meetings on Zoom, and if you walked into her home, she was often heard humming the original songs. Her spiritual commitment was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and relationships.
Known for her sassy spirit and keen wit, Julia was also a talented cook who delighted in preparing meals that brought her loved ones together. Her fried chicken and collards were unmatched. She would work in her yard for countless hours, and she enjoyed planting flowers. She loved shopping, but what she loved most was spending time with her family. She made an impact everywhere she went; if you met her, you would always remember her kind smile. She brightened every room she entered and had the ability to make everyone feel special and loved.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by seven siblings: Minnie Ruth Smith, Calvin (Rock) Randolph, Virginia Randolph, Emma Lee Walker, Marie Britton, Ledell Randolph, and Rufus (Skip) Randolph. Surviving are her loving daughter, Teresa Joyner; special granddaughter, Jumila Franklin; and husband, Shon; and her great-grandson Ashton, who brought her boundless happiness; a brother, Lindell Randolph (Jackie); four sisters, Mary Berry (Robert), Louisiana Tooley, Rosetta Brookins, Ella McClain (Kenny); sisters-in-law, Belinda Joyner, Anita Randolph; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members whom she loved very much.
Julia leaves behind a legacy of warmth, love, and joy that will continue to inspire those who knew her. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for the many ways she enriched our lives.
A memorial service will be conducted at two O’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 960 Southport-Supply Road, Bolivia, NC with Tim Wagner officiating. Please see below to access the services by online video, (ZOOM Meeting).
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the ER Department at Novant Hospital (Supply, NC), the staff at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center, and friends and family that have supported them through this difficult time.
