Joseph “Joe” Peter Kane, age 60, of Southport, NC, formerly of Lake Norman, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family after a private, persistent fight with a steadfast spirit and quiet courage.
Joe was born in Seymour, Connecticut on April 23, 1965, and was one of four children born to the late John Edward Kane, Jr. and Eleanor Marie DeFilippo Kane.
Joe was the most honest, hardworking, and devoted husband and father — the kind of man who led by example and would defend his family and friends without hesitation. Joe’s friendships were true, honest, and full of laughter. He was straightforward, and you always knew where you stood with him. He worked for more than 30 years as a contractor, known for the quality of his work, his dependability, and for being genuine and humble about his accomplishments. He was deeply grateful for his experienced team.
Joe believed in showing up for the people he loved. He was always involved in his community and in his kids’ activities. He spent countless hours coaching baseball, playing softball, and cheering on the sidelines of soccer and football fields. Some of his happiest memories were made on those fields with his kids, their friends, and the families who became lifelong connections. Joe had a fun, easygoing sense of humor and a laugh that made you feel warm inside, always making people smile. Moving to Southport five years ago and enjoying retirement were a beautiful bonus for Joe.
Outside of work, Joe spent every minute he could with his wife, Kristine Kane. He loved relaxing with friends, driving around looking at real estate and construction projects, spending time in the mountains, riding his motorcycle, boating and fishing, and playing disc golf.
Surviving are his loving wife, Kristine Kane; his son, Sean Kane; his daughter, Riley Kane; his brother, John Kane III and wife Dolores; his two sisters, Cheryl Kane and Kathy Cook and husband Ray; his mother-in-law, Patricia Belfatto; his sister-in-law, Tracey Belfatto; his brother-in-law, Mykl Belfatto; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Nash Street, Southport, NC, with Reverend Gary Albertson officiating.
The family respectfully requests that donations be made to Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital, 7800 Providence Rd, Suite 208, Charlotte, NC 28226 or https://fundraise.atriumhealthfoundation.org/give/255923/#/donation/checkout.
