Joseph Lee Canady

Joseph Lee “JL” Canady, 76, of Shallotte, NC passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at his home with family by his side.

JL was born in Columbus County, NC on November 22, 1946 and was one of eleven children born to Hoyt Urshel and Zevia Lee Reaves Canady. In addition to his parents, JL was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Russell, Ronnie, Jerry Wayne, Daily, Charles, John and Earl Canady.

JL was a painter by trade and owned his own painting business for many years.

Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Anna Marie Canady; sons, Joey Canady and wife Amy, Buddy Canady, Heath Canady and wife Amber Dawn; a daughter, Teresa C. Pigott and husband Larry; step-daughter, Kelly Whitman; a step-son, Kory Whitman and wife Hollie; two sisters, Janelle Blanton, Elma Gray Bellamy and husband Joseph “Kenny”; grandchildren, Makayla Canady (Matt), J.R. Pigott (Heather), Chrissy Pigott, Lorenzo Pigott (Tiffany), Rev. Zach Canady (Tori), Makenzie Phillips (Michael), Allison Canady and John Carter Canady; and two step-grandsons, Cooper Kirkland & Kendall Whitman; step-granddaughter, Monica Whitman;  and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, June 3, 2023 in the Blanton Family Cemetery, Robert Blanton Road, Ash, NC with Pastor Zach Canady and Larry Pigott officiating. You are cordially invited back to JL and Anna’s house following the service for a reception.
