John Gilbert "Gil" Snuggs

SOUTHPORT - John Gilbert (Gil) Snuggs, passed away on November 19,2023 in Southport, NC.

There will be a memorial service at 2pm on December 2, 2023, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro, NC. The family will greet friends following the service. The burial will be private in the Eastview Cemetery.

Gil Was born in Wadesboro, NC to Nancy Allen Snuggs and George Baker Snuggs on December 6, 1946.

Gil is survived by and enjoyed the last chapter of his life with Sandra Covington Huntley of Southport, NC.

He was predeceased by his wife, Martha Lee Snead of Monroe, NC. He is survived by three step-sons Herndon, Haydn, Lee Hasty and their families.

Gil was predeceased by his parents, brother Henry Allen Snuggs and sister-in-law Jeanne Marks Snuggs.

He is survived by one brother, George Baker Snuggs, Jr and his wife, Connie Buff Snuggs of Rome, Ga., their son Ken and wife Sara along with their daughter Kris and husband John Mallady all of Atlanta, Ga. Gil is also survived by a nephew, Henry Mark Snuggs and wife, Melissa.

Gil was blessed with grand nieces, nephews, a great grandniece and the extended family of Sandy Huntley, the Justin R Huntley family.

Gil graduated from Wadesboro High School in 1965, playing on the football and golf teams. He was a 1969 graduate of North Carolina State University. Gil served two years in the US Army which included the Republic of Vietnam (1970-71).

Gil worked for several textile industries and retired after 32 years as an assistant director from Union County Public Works in 2005.

A kind, gentle, giving man who always put others first and left this world a better place because of his presence here.

Memorials may be sent to Lower Cape Fear Life Care of Brunswick County, NC or SOAR, Southport/Oak Island Animal Rescue.
