John Paul Smith, Sr., 59, of Fairmont, NC formerly of Shallotte, NC passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
John Paul was born in Newport News, VA on March 14, 1965 and was the last surviving son of the late Henry Albert and Ethel Clark Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, John Paul Smith, Jr., John Curtis Smith, Sr., four brothers, Billy Smith, Carlos Smith, Jimmy Smith and Lacy Smith.
John Paul was an artistic brick mason for many years. He formerly worked for the Yorktown Va. Historical Society in the restoration of homes that are preserved from the battle of Yorktown in 1781. He was a beloved father, who loved to teach his children to fish, hunt and explore the outdoors. Taking them on camping trips to explore the mountains and teaching them how to sharpen their aim by gently pulling the trigger while exhaling.
Surviving are his son, Joseph P. “Josie” Smith (Heather); a daughter, Chrissy Smith (David Sova); three sisters, Cynthia Reese, Mary Lou Bristow, Kitty Horne; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 18, 2024, in the Union Chapel Pentecostal Church Cemetery with Reverend Lonnie Varnam officiating.
