Jimmie Paul Callahan

Jimmie Paul Callahan of Shallotte, NC passed away on March 31,2026, forever joining his loving wife Jeanne (Korienek) Callahan of 61 years.

Born in Akron, OH to the late Paul L and Wilda L (Weber) Callahan and preceded by his older brother Larry Callahan.

Jimmie graduated from Kenmore High School in 1960 and enlisted in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the USS Norfolk joining the crew on a goodwill ambassador tour around South America.  After his return and on leave he joined one of his very good friends on a trip to Michigan where he met the love of his life and soulmate Jeanne.

A quick courtship and they were married on April 4, 1964 at Saint Cyril’s church in Bannister, MI., Jeanne’s hometown. Shortly afterwards, he was ordered to the San Diego, CA naval base. Him and Jeanne called it home for some time where two of their four children would be born. While stationed there, he was assigned to a tour on the USS Samuel Gompers. Upon his return, he was moved to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, WA. He served as Yeoman First and Petty Officer First, receiving an honorable discharge after proudly serving his country from 1960-1968.

Now with three children and one on the way they moved to Spokane, WA where he then pursued a career with the US Postal Service as a mail carrier. He served the community from 1968-1972 with the USPS. The youngest, a son, was born in Spokane, WA.

The next move was back to Ohio, with family in tow he started a career as a firefighter for Stow, OH, serving the public from 1973-1994.  He served proudly and was well loved in the community.

Always being active and able to do whatever he put his mind too another adventure came into view, which included his life-long dream to be close to the ocean, he and Jeanne packed up for their final move to Shallotte, NC in 1994. There he spent a couple years working with Brierwood Builders, DBA Shreve Builders. He then worked for the Brunswick County Tax Department, in Bolivia, NC and after 10 years serving the community, he finally retired (again) to enjoy his life with Jeanne.

Jim was multi-talented, from a locksmith to wood-working and collecting shells along every beach they visited along the east coast.  He was an avid reader, visiting the Rourk Library in Shallotte to get a book or two and always making friends wherever he would venture too.

He leaves behind his younger brother Steve (Pam) Callahan, his loving children, Loretta (Dave) Taylor, Pamela (Michael) Riley, Angela (Tom) Hutchinson, Douglas (Venus) Callahan.  Grandchildren; Scott Taylor and Emily Taylor, Jacob (Joan) Riley, Joshua Riley, Nicholas and Chloe Hutchinson, Douglas (McKenna) Callahan, Nicole (Raymond) Davison plus 6 Great-grandchildren.

The family will be holding a private service.  If you desire, donations can be made to Rourk Library at 5068 Main St. Shallotte, NC 28470 in his honor.
