Heaven gained the most beautiful angel.
Janet L. Bender, 72, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Janet was the loving wife of her husband, H, for 51 years and a devoted mother to her children, Matt and Katie (Mike). She was a proud and adoring Grammy and step-Grammy to Samantha, Paul, and Joey. Her friends were truly her chosen family, and she treated each of them with the same love, loyalty, and care she gave her own.
Janet was a gifted and talented quilter who found great joy in creating beautiful quilts for those she loved. This passion was one of the many ways she shared her heart and creativity with others.
Janet and H built their home in New City, NY, from the ground up—so completely that Janet even became a registered electrician to help complete the work. They filled that home with love and memories until 2023, before overseeing the design and construction of their dream home in Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
Her love of Disney, cruising, and the beach was passed down to her children and grandchildren through countless cherished family trips.
In accordance with Janet’s wishes, there will be no services. She requested to be cremated in her “uniform” of shorts and a t-shirt, and wanted to be at her dream home forever with the love of her life H.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Janet’s name to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice of North Carolina, whose compassion and care meant so much to Janet and her family.
