Harry Brookover Obituary

Harry James (Pastor Jim) Brookover, 77, of Calabash, NC ran away with Jesus on Monday, September 15, 2025, in the McLeod Seacoast Hospital, Little River, SC.

Pastor Jim was born in Charleston, WV on February 15, 1948, and was a son of the late Harry Albert and Clarris “Kitty” Cooper Brookover. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Opal Margo Brookover.

“Jim” or “Pastor Jim” as he was fondly known, was a devout Christian who loved nothing more than to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He was a proud US Army veteran and was a graduate of the Alderson Broaddus University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Science. He was a nationally certified Physician’s Assistant who specialized in Neurosurgery. Jim practiced medicine in Charleston and Huntington, WV. While attending Rhema Bible College in Tulsa, OK he also worked under Dr. Ronald Woosley, Neurosurgeon. Jim was the first PA-C hired by the City of Faith hospital.

After graduating from Bible College Jim and Sandra moved to Huntington to help Pastor Darrell Huffman start New Life Church (formerly New Life Victory Center) - Jim served there as associate pastor for several years. Jim then became an itinerant minister and travelled successfully throughout the United States for over 10 years. Jim’s primary passion was leading people to Christ and discipling others.

In recent years, Jim was the number one art consultant in the nation for a Thomas Kinkade Signature Art Gallery. After Mr. Kinkade’s passing, Jim went on to become an art consultant for his dear friends Jim and Linda Odom at the Master’s Editions Fine Art Gallery located in Myrtle Beach, SC. While sharing his love for art, Jim also shared the love of Jesus with thousands of vacationers who visited the gallery each year. If you are reading this and your life was touched by Jim in some capacity – whether you visited one of the art galleries he worked at, or listened to him speak at your local church, Jim would like you to remember this one thing. There are two things you can invest in, people and the Word of God. Both are eternal. Jim loved God and loved people.

Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra Tallman Brookover; a son, James D. Brookover and wife Kyla S. Brookover of Malawi, Africa; and his two grand-dogs, “Toby” and “Tulip”.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 1 P.M. at Lighthouse Mission Church located at 899 Carter Dr. SW, Calabash, NC 28467, officiated by Pastor Larry Ward.
