George Duchaine Obituary

George Raymond Duchaine, 78, of Southport, NC passed away after a long illness on Sunday, February 2, 2025, in the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center, Bolivia, NC.

Born in Lowell, MA, on August 30, 1946, George was one of five children born to the late George Raymond Duchaine and Marguerita Elizabeth Brown.  In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia “Ginny” Brogan and a nephew, Keith Brogan.

George was a longtime employee of Winter Hill Frozen Foods and Trucchi’s Supermarkets.   His favorite job though was in post-retirement at the Harris Teeter Fuel Center in Leland, NC, where he loved talking to and sharing memories with customers and colleagues.   He was certainly the friendliest face you would encounter, and was ever a proud gentleman!  George loved ice cream (really, all sweets!), was an avid golfer and an intense Boston sports fan.   In recent years, he took great pride in watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren develop a love of their favorite sports.   He especially enjoyed watching or hearing about Matthew’s focus on a golf course, Adam’s fearlessness in a soccer goal, McKenna’s discipline in karate, and Brody’s commitment to basketball.   George absolutely loved the beach, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving him are his loving wife of more than forty two years, Darlene Lee (Young) Duchaine; their children, Brian Walsh, Danielle Barrett (Belinda), Tracey Peters (Chris), Elizabeth “Beth” Singh (Julien); three sisters, Marilynn Berry (Mark), Barbara Burke (Dennis), Janette Meleedy (John); a brother-in-law, Raymond Brogan; grandchildren, Devin, Sean, Brian, Jr., Matthew, Adam, McKenna, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

To honor his wishes, a celebration of life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made in George’s name to ALS United North Carolina, 4 N. Blount Street, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27601 or by visiting https://alsnc.org/
