George Hugh Crawford

George Hugh Crawford, age 79, of Supply, NC passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. George was born in Newport News, VA on May 9, 1946, and was the son of the late George David and Catherine Mae Seay Crawford. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his siblings, Joseph “Mickey” Crawford, Charles Arthur Crawford, Betty Mae Crawford Scearce, and Peggy Rebecca Young.

George was a US Air Force veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He also retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad. He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed playing, not only in his hometown of Danville, VA, but also during his travels. This included playing in Alaska, one of his favorite memories. George was well known for his outrageous and colorful outfits during golf tournaments.

George was a devoted family man, who came from a very tight knit family. He and his siblings remained close throughout their lives. He loved annual family vacations to Carolina Beach, where he used to fish from the surf with his children. In his later years, he enjoyed taking his grandkids to the beach. George had a very mischievous streak, paired with strong comedic wit. He always joked around and pulled pranks on family and friends, and the occasional stranger.

Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Sandra “Sandi” Beamon Crawford; a daughter, Bobbi Mae Crawford Woodward; three sons, David Charles Ward (Donna), Kenneth George Crawford (Jessica Nicole), Paul Anthony Crawford, Sr. ; two sisters, Jo Ann Hodnett, Sue Crawford Simpkins; one brother, Lucious David Crawford (Donna); six grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell Woodward, Connor Alexander Woodward, Paul Anthony Crawford, Jr., Zachary George Crawford, Laura Gwen Crawford and Adalyn Karlie Sue Crawford; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at Dan Daniel Memorial Park in Danville, VA at 12-4 PM at Shelter 15, on September 27, 2025 with Pastor Bryant Booth officiating.
