Emma Babson Obituary

Emma Lee R. Babson, 78, of Winnabow, NC passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, in the Brunswick Cove Nursing Center.

Emma was born in Wilmington, NC on July 20, 1945, and was a daughter of the late Herbert Lee and Etha Mae Robinson.

Emma Lee was a lady deeply rooted in her Christian faith and attended several of our local churches to get her spiritual fulfillment. She had an inquisitive mind, and she loved reading, painting, math (particularly algebra) and anything else that would challenge her mind.

From her daughter, Jessica:

Mom was outgoing and would always strike up a conversation with anybody, anywhere, much to my teenage chagrin. Then there were people like our second cousin’s older brother’s mother, or whomever. She knew everybody!

She loved Southern Gospel music and always had the radio on WVCB, our local Christian station. She dragged me and Bobby to SO many gospel sings it’s crazy. And I say drag because we were teens and we didn’t want to sit with a bunch of old people and listen to old people sing. But now, we’re both happy to sing along to those older hymns because we’d heard them so often growing up.

She had very interesting ways of saying certain things too. Once, we went to Jerome’s and once we were seated, she wanted to change tables. But instead of just saying let’s move, she said, “Let’s rearrange our geographical location”. That was so long ago but it always cracked me up! She often said, ‘I am who I am.’, and ‘God said it, I believe it and that settles it.’ I find myself saying those same things today.

Most importantly, Mom and Dad instilled the love AND fear of God in us. At church, we always sat on the second row, no matter the protestations we threw at her.

You would often find her with an open Bible on her lap and a pencil behind her ear, ready to underline anything that stood out to her and she would quote scripture at the drop of a hat. Her faith was always so strong!

We’re going to miss you mom, but we will see you again one day. Say ‘hi’ to Dad for us!

Surviving are her children, Bobby Babson, Jr., and wife Tami, Jessica “Jess” Babson Lancaster; a sister, Carol Beauvais and husband Eddie and her beloved grandchildren, Ryan and Preston Lancaster, and Aiden, Samuel and Kasarai.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
