Douglas Doyle Freeman
August 23, 1952 – November 18, 2022
Mr. Douglas Doyle Freeman, 70, of Southport, passed away on November 18, 2022 at home. He was born August 23, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Reverend Floyd Doyle Freeman and late Hazel Bryte Caldwell Freeman.
Mr. Freeman graduated from UNC School of Pharmacy in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science. He spent his career working in pharmacy and retired from Omnicare in Hickory, NC. He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church of Lincolnton and until relocating to Southport, he served as a Sunday school teacher and was actively involved in church. He attended Bethel United Methodist Church in Bolivia, NC as he was involved with his Sunday school class and was an interim speaker. He enjoyed his hobby farm in Lincolnton with cows over the years. He enjoyed being outside to observe God’s beauty at the farm in Lincolnton and beach at home in Southport. He loved to spend time and fellowship with his friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Maureen Devenney Freeman, of the home. Mr. Freeman is survived by his children Joe Freeman of Charlotte and Zachary Freeman (Amanda) of Hamlet; brother Michael Freeman (Candy) of Lincolnton; Uncle, John Irvan Freeman (Jan) of Franklinton; nieces Sara Freeman Church (Kevin) of Greensboro, Cara Devenney Helms (Myles) of Gastonia, Karlie Devenney Laney (Brandon) of Monroe, and Krista Devenney of Monroe; nephew Michael Freeman (Maddy) of Seattle, Washington; grandson Carson Freeman. He is survived by numerous cousins and friends. He loved his dog Boomer of the home.
The family will receive friends and family from 1:30pm to 2:45pm Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at McKendree United Methodist Church located at 3537 Maiden Hwy, Lincolnton, NC 28092. A celebration of life service will follow the gathering at 3:00pm at McKendree United Methodist Church. A live stream of the celebration will be available for viewing on the Facebook page “McKendree UMC Church Members and Friends!” for those unable to attend.
