Donna Carlisle Obituary

Donna Elaine Carlisle, 75, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at her daughter’s home in Calabash, North Carolina.

Donna was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on January 19, 1949 and was a daughter of the late George Hiram Sims and Jane Ruth Turner Sims (Salter). In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Taylor Leanne Copeland, her step-father, Joel Howard Salter, Jr., Robert Edward Carlisle, the father of her children, and a sister-in-law, Rita Hawsey Sims.

Donna managed a busy household and two successful family businesses in Mobile. She also worked as a tax preparer in her community, a substitute teacher for W.C. Griggs Elementary School and was always there for her family, friends and neighbors. Her work at Baldwin County Mental Health, teaching clients activities of daily living, helped many challenged adults lead a more independent life.

Donna was active in Girl Scouts with her daughters, and served as den mother for her son’s Boy Scout Pack. She was a member of Le Krewe de Bienville Mardi Gras Society for several years, and once, reigned as Queen. Donna loved to read, especially the Holy Bible and her book of Shakespeare’s sonnets-her favorite was Sonnet 71.

Survivors include two sons, Roy Cleo Williams, Jr., Daniel Robert Carlisle (Amy Duong); two daughters, Tonia Tremont-Edgar (Gregory Alan Edgar), Rhonda Darlene Copeland; two brothers, Rockie Don Sims, Jorden “Pete” Mason Clark (Joyce Clark); a sister, Gladys Singleton (Mark); an aunt, Linda Brown (Tommy); a step-brother, Doug Salter (Jean); grandchildren, Steven Tyler Tremont (Laura Chelsea), Stephanie Elaine Fleming (David Alexander Fleming), Storm Garrett Tremont, Katie Marie Copeland, Robert Luke Carlisle; great grandchildren, Caleb Eli Fleming, Gwenyth Reece Fleming and Colt Alexander Fleming; nieces, Stacey Elizabeth Crosby (Daniel), Leslie Rachel Davenport; a nephew, Aubrey Jacob “AJ” Fendley (Amanda). Donna is loved, and will be missed by numerous other relatives and friends, including the members of her Bible Study family that were so dear to her. 

A Celebration of Life is planned in Alabama for mid summer and will be announced here when the details are complete.
