Clarence (Chip) Alfred Price, Jr., 80, of Kannapolis, NC passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in the
Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Wilmington, NC following a time of declining health.
Clarence was born in Mooresville, NC on July 4, 1945, and was a son of the late Clarence A. Price, Sr.,
and Pauline Cook Price. In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by a sister, Paulette
Hines, a nephew, Evan James and brother, Richard Reid.
Chip was an active member of First Baptist Church Kannapolis for many years. He was a retired US
Army Captain having served for over twenty years in the NC National Guard. He spent many years in the
car industry both in sales and management. In his early years he owned his own 18 wheelers and loved
his Peterbilt trucks. After retirement, Chip maintained close friendships with his buddies enjoying weekly
breakfast and lunch. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as listening to old country music and a
mix of other oldies. He was a huge Nascar fan and shared his love for that with his daughters at an early
age and turned them into fans as well. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandchildren and
friends. After raising 3 girls, he enjoyed sharing his love for deer hunting and spending many hours in
tree stands with his grandsons. Chip enjoyed spending time with his girlfriend of many years Gayl
O’Donnell and they enjoyed weekend mountain getaways. He was known for his unforgettable, playful,
full of life personality. All kids that encountered him whether it be family, his daughters friends or his
friends' children knew he was going to hold you down and tickle you until it hurt but it still put a smile on
your face. You wanted to be around him but run from him at the same time.
Surviving are three daughters, Heather Sweatt (Randy), Erica Scanlon (Sean), Molly Sampson (Larry);
a brother, Jimmy Lee Price (Angie); a sister, Susan Price James; and his grandchildren Tyler Sampson
(Anna), Gavin Sampson, Makena Scanlon, Blair Sampson, Heath Scanlon, great granddaughter Tatum
Sampson and many nieces and nephews, and significant other Gayl O’Donnell.
