Cheryl Shuster Obituary

Cheryl Lynn Shuster of Leland, North Carolina , affectionately known to friends and family as “Shae Shae”, passed away on February 25, 2026. She is preceded in death by both parents and one sister. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Philip Shuster, daughter, Quintana McConnell, along with her husband and children; a step-son, Jonathon Shuster, along with his wife and children, as well as five siblings and many nieces and nephews.

Born on November 8, 1968 in Cleveland, Ohio, Cheryl was raised in the small village of McConnelsville alongside her brothers and sisters. She attended Morgan High School where she was active in many school activities, such as track and field. Cheryl also loved swimming and was an enthusiastic member of the local swim team.

After graduation, Cheryl served in the Army and practiced her cooking skills in the kitchen. She grew to love making food for many people and this enjoyment continued for the rest of her years. Following an honorable discharge, she came to know Jehovah’s Witnesses and dedicated herself to God on January 12, 1991. She was blessed to make many friends over the years, teaching people about the Bible, visiting many different places, and participating in various construction projects—even getting back into the kitchen to feed volunteers. Cheryl was always known for her bright, beautiful smile and fun-loving spirit.

Cheryl married Philip on December 14,1989 and they enjoyed 36 years of marriage. As time passed, Cheryl devoted herself to not only being a homemaker and homeschooling their daughter but also made time to do the things she loved, including learning foreign languages and various outdoor activities. She and Philip spent a lot of time hiking and going to the beach, after moving their family to coastal North Carolina in 2005.

In later years, Cheryl got involved with catering and spent many evenings alongside her friends and coworkers, making special events unforgettable. She truly had a vibrance that followed her wherever she went and was readily recognized by those around her—whether it was at work or singing at a karaoke night.

Cheryl’s strong faith in the Bible’s promise for a wonderful future on a paradise earth and the resurrection hope, fortified her throughout her adult life, especially while enduring her devastating illness. Despite her diagnosis, Cheryl continued to share this hope often and maintained a positive attitude, inspiring many others.

A memorial service will be held on March 15, 2026 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 212 Futch Creek Road in Wilmington, North Carolina at 2:00 PM. A reception will be held directly afterward, a short distance away at the Davis Community, located at 980 Roundhouse Circle.
