Obituary

Bonnie Jeanne Buckner, age 71, of Shallotte, NC formerly of Sunderland, MD passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022, in the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center, Bolivia, NC.

Bonnie was born in Washington, DC on July 16, 1950, to the late William S. and Margaret Elsie Simons Pridham. She was a retired Insurance Claims adjustor with Allstate Insurance Company. After moving to Shallotte in 2017, she and her loving husband became members of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. They were previously members of St. Nicholas Lutheran Church in Huntingtown, MD.

In 1968, Bonnie graduated from Einstein High School in Silver Spring, MD. After high school, she briefly attended Frostburg State University. She was actively involved in the planning and implementation of her high school reunions, including their 50th in 2018. She loved animals throughout her entire life and had a passion for rescuing retired greyhounds, was an ambassador for the retired racing greyhound community, and leaves behind her current beloved greyhounds, Apollo, Tara, and Trooper. She was very active in her church community and volunteered her time at the food bank. She was a lifelong fan of NASCAR and Richard Petty, loved rooting for the Washington Redskins (HTTR), and loved scrapbooking family events, accomplishments, and history. If it’s not in the scrapbook, it didn’t happen.

Surviving her are the love of her life, husband of almost 41 years, Richard Buckner; children, Tina Freeman of Shallotte, NC, Brandie Mister and husband Marty of Broomes Island, MD, Steven Buckner of Hampton, VA; a brother, Howard Pridham and wife Wanda of Jefferson, MD; four cherished grandchildren, Brian Freeman and wife Kirstie, Stephanie Freeman, Evan Mister, and Baylee Mister, as well as a nephew, Greg Pridham and various cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at a later date still to be determined.
