Bobbie Redding Obituary

Bobbie Fay Walker Redding, 91, of Southport, NC formerly of Gastonia, NC passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, “Brunswick House”.

Ms. Bobbie was born in Gastonia, NC on May 30, 1934, and was a daughter of the late, Oliver John Walker and Estie Marr Walker Postell; Stepdaughter of the late J.W. Postell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Kenneth Redding, Samuel Dean Redding, a sister Mary Geneva Walker and a brother, Samuel Camel Walker.

Ms. Bobbie was a graduate of Gastonia High School and was a lifelong member of Victory Baptist Church, Gastonia, NC.  She worked in the payroll department at Public Service Company of North Carolina in Gastonia for many years. Following retirement, she lived in several different cities in North Carolina before settling in Southport, NC.   Each time she relocated with her family, she became involved in church activities and supported the church she attended.   Most recently, she attended First Baptist Church of Oak Island. She enjoyed taking care of her family and friends. She was a loving and giving lady who loved the Lord and worked to serve Him by helping others. She was a devout Christian and was very active in her church. She will be fondly remembered as an excellent cook and seamstress and was quite adept in machine embroidery as well as other crafts. Over the years, she became Grandma Bobbie to many.

Surviving are a loving daughter, Jane Redding Hanna and husband Johnny of Southport; two granddaughters, Ashley Harwell Lauer and husband, Tim of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Kelly Renea Redding of Greenville, SC; a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Madison Nardone and Fritz (Guiding Eyes companion of Maddie’s),of Charleston, SC; and a daughter-in-law, Melinda P. Smith (John) of Walhalla, NC.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11 AM, on Saturday, May, 9, 2026, at Victory Baptist Church, Gastonia, NC.  Following the service, please feel free to join the family in the Family Life Center to share your remembrances of Bobbie.  The family asks that those attending the celebration dress in bright, colorful attire to express the many happy times we all shared with Grandma Bobbie. Her favorite color was Red and she was beautiful in Blue.
