Anthony “Tony” Layton Wright, 75, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC formerly of Burlington, NC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at his home after a time of declining health.

Tony was born in Alamance County, NC on August 14, 1947, and was a son of the late Thomas Leroy Wright, Sr., and Audrey Layton Wright. In addition to his parents, he was predeseased by brother, Thomas Leroy Wright, Jr. and sister, Cindy Wright Dodrill. Tony is survived by wife Debbie Whitesell Wright, also of Ocean Isle Beach, daughter Carmen Wright Sebastian, and husband Matt of Concord, son Chris Wright and wife Mary Margaret of Burlington, bonus daughter Alexis Hayes and husband Jessie of Shallotte; grandchildren Chloe Wright, Jacob Sebastian, Melina Sebastian and Kinsley Hayes; sister Linda Wright Cook of Elon; and special pet, Gingersnap.

Tony graduated from Graham High School, East Carolina University and held a Masters of Administration from NC A&T State University. Tony was a dedicated teacher and administrator for 33 years in the Alamance-Burlington School System, NC and served another 9 years in Horry County Schools, SC. He enjoyed sharing stories from his years in the classroom and of his time as a member of the Professional Putter Association. He had a love of lighthouses and in addition to collecting them, he enjoyed traveling to visit and climb as many as he was able.

Private memorial services are being planned for a later date.
