William (Ze'ev) Vodyanitsky, 95, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Sunday, June 25, 2023, in Bolivia, NC. Son of Rivka and Geshon Vodyanitsky, was born in 1928 in the Ukrainian city of Cherkassy. He attended a Jewish elementary school and was evacuated to far eastern parts of the Soviet Union during the Second World War. After the war he moved with his mother and sister, Ada, to Kyiv, where he graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute as a mechanical engineer. He married Galina Soldatkin in 1949 and they had two daughters, Irina and Yelena. He made a career as a well known mechanical engineer with 32 issued patents to his name.
In 1977, his oldest daughter, Irina, moved to the United States and William and Galina followed in 1978, followed shortly afterwards by Yelena's family. They settled in Connecticut, first in West Hartford, and, later, moved in Newington, where he lived until his passing. William continued his career as a mechanical engineer in the United States, retiring at the age of 73.
He is survived by his sister, Ada, his daughters, Irina and Yelena, five grandchildren (Greg, Alex, Ilona, Paul, and Michael), and 6 great-grandchildren.
William enjoyed collecting stamps, playing Sudoku, he was very fit and active up to shortly before his passing and he was a very cheerful, optimistic, positive person. He was devoted to his wife and to his children and great-grandchildren.
