Obituary

William "Bill" Hogan of Southport, NC passed away on Feb. 25, 2025. He was born on September 1, 1946, In Punxsutawney, PA, grew up in Swissvale, PA and graduated from Swissvale High School in 1964.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970 which included a tour in Vietnam in 1967 where he was stationed in Chu Lai and Da Nang.

Bill graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 1973 with a degree in Mathematics and from the University of Pittsburgh in 1979 with a Master's Degree in Public Administration. He taught high school mathematics, but his long career was with the Veterans Administration in Pittsburgh, PA, Washington, DC and finally                                                  Roanoke, VA serving as an advocate for better housing and benefits for Veterans.

Bill and his Wife, Lonna, of 59 years, moved to Southport in 1999. Their retirement years were happy ones as he was passionate about golf, family and friends --- he had a dry sense of humor so you had to watch out for the zingers!

He is survived by his wife, Lonna; their daughter Jennifer and her husband Gary; 2 granddaughters, Sara and Jessica and her husband Brandon; and 3 great grandchildren Scarlet, Suellen and Jayden. Other survivors Include his 2 sisters Nancy Anderson and Ann Hamrock, their respective spouses and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at ST Peter Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 15th at 11AM.

In lieu flowers, donations can be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care or Southport-Oak Island Interchurch Fellowship.
