William John Hartnett, 81, of Holden Beach, NC passed away on Tuesday, November22, 2022 following an extended illness (COPD) at the Lower Cape Fear Life Care in Bolivia, NC. Bill was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 25, 1941, to the late William Michael and Dorothy McCarthy Hartnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheri Ann Hartnett Welling.

Surviving are his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Joyce M. Hartnett; a son, William M. Hartnett; siblings, Michael J. Hartnett and (many half-siblings); grandchildren, Jacob Quinn Hartnett, Savannah Welling, Conner Welling, and Dillon Welling.

He was retired as a foreman from Asplundh Tree Company after 26 years and was a US Navy Veteran. Bill loved Golf, Fishing from banks of the intercoastal waterway, often remembering the times he and his friend caught their fish and cooked it from a creek in Bucks county, PA. He loved horses and watched the races on TV.

Bill had a radiant smile, was laid back, easy going and upbeat. He coached his son Billy in baseball and soccer. He was always willing to help someone looking for a job or in need.
