Obituary

Timothy Wayne Niles, MSG, US Army Retired, 53, died Saturday, February 1 in Round Rock, TX.

Tim was born on October 6, 1966 in Wilmington, NC to Charles and Josie Niles. In 1983, he joined the US Army, serving 24 years until retirement in 2007. He served our nation honorably and with distinction in peace time and in combat. He loved the military and excelled in leadership roles throughout his career.  He is the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his actions in combat and he received the recruiter's ring in just one month, which was unprecedented and recognized him as one of the best recruiters in the Army.

He was a son, a brother, a dad, a grandpa, an uncle, a cousin, a soldier, a professor, and a program manager. Regardless of the role, he always took his responsibilities seriously. In all his actions, whether personal or professional he never missed an opportunity to coach, teach, or mentor. He always wanted to help others be better and accomplish more. He lived the tenets he messaged to others- work hard and you can accomplish anything you desire. From a young boy working on his grandfather's farm, Tim eventually went on to earn his master's in Business Administration and his Program Management Professional certification. As he would say, "Not too bad for an old country boy from Ash, North Carolina."

He was not just all business- he had fun along the way. In addition to his appreciation for a manhattan (4 cherries, extra chilled) and a nice cigar, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. In recent years, he also spent many weekends riding his Harley Ultra Glide with the Central Texas Harley Owners Group. Tim's quick wit, sound advice, and genuine demeanor will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Hannah Marie Niles; his mother Josie Register Niles; his brother Charles E Niles V and wife Carol; nieces and nephews, Jessika Craven, Chelsea Lissemore, Kaitlan Niles, Zachary Niles, Chance Niles, and Courtney Niles. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Emil Niles IV.

Memorial Services will be held for Tim at the Lockwood Folly Community Center, 1691 Stanbury Road, Supply, North Carolina, on Feb 22nd at 3pm. There will also be a memorial service from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in VFW Post #8925, 8706 FM812, Austin, TX 78719 on Saturday the 29th of February 2020.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a charitable donation be made to an organization that helps veterans. The family would appreciate knowing which organizations receive donations.
