Stephen “Steve” Jewell of Carolina Shores, NC passed away on August 11, 2026. Steve left us with a smile on our faces and love in our hearts. After a 19-year battle with cancer, he is out of pain and in the arms of our loving God.
Steve was born in Washinton D.C. to William Henry Jewell and Grace Stoneman Jewell. Upon graduating from Bladensburg High School, he held an apprenticeship with Judd and Detweiler Printing Company. Steve then went to work at the Government Printing Office as a compositor. He was promoted to typography and design, 2 years later came another promotion to Senior Account Representative. Then came the call to work at the White House, where he was in charge of publishing management. Steve served under Presidents Reagan, Bush, and Clinton. Boy did he have some stories!
Upon retiring Steve worked for S&S Graphics as a printing consultant, until he started his own business, I Data Flow, an application service provider. He sold the business in 1998.
In 1995 he met Dianne, his best friend and partner. They married in 2000. In 2001 they moved to Carolina Shores where they enjoyed 25 years together. Steve loved playing golf, working in his yard, traveling, The Washington Redskins, Baltimore Oriole’s and his church St. Luke Lutheran.
In addition, Steve was very proud of his Grandfather Ernest V. (Pop) Stoneman, as well as his Aunts and Uncles who later played music with Pop as the “Stoneman Family”. Pop was known as the unsung father of country music. He was the first major star and pioneer of country music to be inducted into the Nashville Country Music Hall of Fame as well as the Bluegrass Hall of Fame. Steve’s Uncle Scott was a 5-time fiddler champion and Aunt Roni was the “ironing board lady” on Hee Haw to name a few.
Steve leaves behind his Devoted and Loving Wife Dianne; children Steve (Angie), Mark, and Dana; grandchildren Jessica (A.J), Lydia (Brian), Claudia (Calvin) and Mitchell; precious great granddaughters Maizy and Mille; half siblings Donna Kay, Donald and Donna.
Services will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Hwy. 17, Ocean Isle Beach on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Steve’s name to the wonderful staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Bolivia or St. Luke Lutheran Church.
