Stanley Alexander "Sleepy" Darrell, age 85, of Southport, (Boiling Spring Lakes) passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at his home following a time of declining health.
Stanley was born on April 21, 1939, in St. George, Bermuda and was a son of the late Wilford Andrew and Audrey M. Manders Darrell.
After school at the East End School in St George and as a young man he worked as a roll boy in the Hotel dining room and then he transitioned to a bartender in the local hotels. He later moved to the United States, he worked in the shirt industry as a designer and later opened his own business, "BAMCO". And spent time running The Garden Lounge in Hoboken, NJ.
His love of the Lord was evident in his daily life and manifested in his church activities. He was a longtime member of the Mt. Carmel AME Church, Southport, NC where he served as trustee, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Senior Choir, as well as the DDH choir. Stanley was passionate for the arts, and was member/singer with the AMUZU Theater where he sang with a men's group and represented Mt. Carmel AME Church in the SOIICF organization.
Surviving are his loving wife, Verda Delphine McRae Darrell of Boiling Spring Lakes, NC; Children, Jacqueline Bragg (Cheryl), Jeffrey Jackson (Maryellen); grandchildren, Nadine Jackson, Aaron Jackson; sister, Joyce Daniels of Bermuda; brothers, Gilbert Darrell (Rose) of Jacksonville, FL, Gary Darrell (Jackie) of Bermuda; Sisters-in-law, Vera Darrell, Lillie A Alford, Don Brunetta Jackson, Gail E. Sands; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in the Boiling Spring Lakes Community Center.
Special pallbearers will be William Davis, Edgar Gore, Larry Joyner, Donnie Joyner, Derrick Parker, and Trey Parker.
