Sheila Smith Howard, 84 of Grissettown, NC passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020 after a long illness. Born in Brunswick County, NC on January 25, 1936, Sheila was the daughter of the late Jesse Lue and Kate Andrews Smith.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.R. Howard, by her siblings, Hester Babson, Hazel Ward, Charles "Billy" Smith and a granddaughter, Grace Meredith Lieseke.

Sheila graduated from Waccamaw High School in 1954 where she played basketball as captain of her team.  Most recently she worked at Victoria's Ragpatch at the Ocean Isle and Calabash locations for many years.  Sheila dearly loved animals. She enjoyed bowling and traveling to the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.  She also loved listening to music and growing flowers.  Sheila had a mischievous sparkle in her eyes, an infectious smile and she always hugged you like it was the last time she would ever see you.  She truly adored her family and they adored her.

She is survived by her children, Randy Bennett, Cliff Bennett (fiancé Donna Fulford), Lynn Lieseke (Donny), her grandchildren, Evan Lieseke, Colin Bennett, Taylor Bennett, Brandon Bennett, Sydney Bennett, Jenna Lieseke and Jack Bennett, her great-grandchildren, Noah Bennett, Kamden Kehoe, Olivia Bennett and Blake Bennett and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their excellent in-home health care for Ms. Howard in the final days of her life.
