Robert Wayne Long, age 73, of Ash, NC passed away at his home on Tuesday the thirteenth of July 2021. Wayne was born in Columbus County, NC on the ninth of February 1948 and was a son of the late Robert Edgar and Ruby Taylor Long. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a twin sister, Mary Jane Connor. Wayne was raised on a farm and graduated as the class valedictorian from Nakina High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from NC State University and then his Juris of Doctorate degree from NC Central University. Over the years he held positions as a police officer, Probation/Parole officer, practicing attorney and was elected Judge of the thirteenth Judicial District which was then Bladen, Brunswick and Columbus counties. Wayne was a friend to many people and a loving father to his four children. He was a veteran and was a member of the US Marine Corps and US Air Force Reserves. He was also a member of Grace Baptist Church, Shallotte, NC.
Surviving are two sons, Bob Long (Merinda) of Ash, Jeff Long of Ash; two daughters, Angela W. McLeod (Reverend William McLeod) of Little River, SC, Julie Long (Steven Norris) of Cerro Gordo, NC; a sister, Carrie Ann Tripp (Bill) of Ash; grandchildren, Tyler Long (Kalah), Faith Long Davis (Justin), Haley Long, Alexis McLeod, Maggie McLeod, Makayla Canady, Brooke Norris, Jacob Norris; one great grandchild, Carter Long and special niece and nephew's Regina Connor and Lee Connor.
Funeral services will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday the seventeenth of July 2021 in the New Britton Baptist Church, Ash, NC. Interment will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens, Shallotte.
The family will receive friends from eleven o'clock in the morning until service time at the church.
